Svara Sandhya

“Svara Sandhya” does not have a single standard definition; instead, it is a Sanskrit-derived compound phrase that may be interpreted as “Twilight of Sound” or “a musical confluence,” evoking the meeting of music, spirituality, and time.

 This concert features two distinguished vocalists: Sanhita Nandi, a Hindustani classical singer of the Kirana Gharana who trained at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy under Pt. A. Kanan and later under Pt. Vinayak Torvi and Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan, and Rachana Bodas, an accomplished Hindustani classical vocalist whose style is shaped by the Gwalior tradition and the guidance of the late Vidushi Veena Sahasrabuddhe.

They are accompanied by Shyam Kane on tabla, a senior artist of the Punjab Gharana and a noted disciple of Ustad Zakir Hussain, and Vikas Phalnikar on harmonium. 

This special evening is also offered in tribute to Shyam Kane’s guru, the late Ustad Zakir Hussain, commemorating his 75th birth anniversary and celebrating his extraordinary legacy, artistry, and profound influence on generations of musicians and music lovers.

Smt. Sanhita Nandi is a prominent exponent of the Kirana Gharana. Her music is characterized by a deep, meditative quality and meticulous attention to swara purity. She has performed at major music festivals across India and internationally, earning acclaim for her soulful Khayal renderings. 

A disciple of the legendary Pt. Kashinath Bodas, Smt. Rachna Bodas brings a unique blend of Gwalior and Kirana styles. Her performances are known for their emotional depth and technical brilliance, making her one of the most sought-after vocalists of her generation.

Sri Shyam Kane is a dynamic Tabla player with a rich lineage. Known for his versatility, he is equally comfortable as a soloist and as an accompanist to the finest vocalists and instrumentalists. His rhythmic precision and tonal clarity have won him accolades worldwide.

Sri Vikas Phalnikar is a seasoned Harmonium artist. His sensitive and melodious accompaniment has graced countless concerts, providing a rich harmonic foundation for many legendary vocalists. He is also a brilliant soloist, showcasing the Harmonium's unique expressive capabilities.
